Caterham School Sports Partnership Young Ambassadors 2009-2011
Each year until 2012, School Sports Partnerships across England will recruit two young people to take on the role of Young Ambassador for two years. In their first year their role with focus on four main areas:
- To advocate the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement
- To champion sport within schools and local communities
- To create role models for other young people
- To inspire participation of all sporting activities
In their second year they take on a mentoring role with the new Young Ambassadors, which will focus on supporting the new YAs and other young people, and taking on the role to local, county, regional & national levels.
By the time the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games reach these shores in 2012, more than 5,000 young people from across the UK will have been through the Young Ambassador programme, which is managed by the Youth Sport Trust.

Our Young Ambassadors are all selected due to their sporting talent and their outstanding commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers. We are now into the fourth year of the programme with our first ambassadors appointed in 2006.
In 2007 were Jade Haron and Patrick Ulor who have now come to the end of their 2 years of office. Appointed last year were Hannah Turner and Kate Stockings who are nearing the end of their first year but will mentor our two new Young Ambassadors, Rikesh Patel from Ilford CH and Osaro Otobo from Trinity HS. They were recently appointed to the role beating many high quality candidates shortlisted from our nine secondary schools.
We are developing the programme at Caterham SSP by introducing Assistant YAs Kathryn Wilks and Charlie Witherspoon, Sports (Silver) YAs in secondary schools and Bronze YAs in primary schools to enable a network of communication between all our pupils to inspire participation in sport throughout our Partnership.
All our Young Ambassadors have been eager to promote sport and are hoping to play an active part in the London 2012 Olympic Games either as competitors or volunteers.
