Being an England Mascot - Mia's Report

Mia at Wenbley

When Mrs O’Riordan, the teacher told me I was gong to be an England mascot, I was very happy. I thought is this really happening? I thought I was dreaming. I didn’t even know they were choosing a mascot from school.

I’ve always wanted to be a mascot though. I’d seen them walking out at West Ham and thought, ’I’d really like to do that’.

I was very excited and wanted to tell everybody. I told Daddy as soon as he got home and that night I phoned Grandad and Auntie Laine.

I couldn’t wait for the day to come. Everybody was talking about me and coming up to me and saying, ā€I’ll watch you on TV tonight’. Other parents kept coming up to mummy and saying, ā€˜Well done’.

I started to feel nervous during the build up. We had already practiced on the pitch when the stadium was empty. When the players came out of their changing rooms I kept telling myself to relax and smile. I kept waiting for Wayne Rooney to come out.

When we got onto the grass it was quieter than I expected. I didn’t look around, I looked straight ahead just as I was told.

After they led us off I went up to the stand to watch the match. The time on the pitch flew by.

I watched the match and felt very excited; happy to have been the mascot. I thought: wait till tomorrow, I’m going to be the most popular person in class. .
